Water Fountain Lover's Corner

Water fountains, indoor water fountains, and how to cheaply make your house into an oasis

Updates on water fountains and Feng Shui

It has been over a week since we reorganized our bedroom and put a floor fountain in the corner. I was motivated to do this because I have learned water fountains clean and purify the air, make it more easy to relax and fall asleep, and help keep the room cool.

So far, it has been right on all points. We purchased an Alpine fountain and it hasn’t let us down: we are sleeping better, we are more relaxed, and we are enjoying ourselves much more. It was an easy investment and one that is paying itself off in a very short amount of time.

Notes on what I learned from Feng Shui

Since I suddenly have a lot of time on my hands, I’ve been looking for things to do that are interesting (other than reading every newspaper end to end every day, monitoring my retirement funds, and knowing everything about sports–every sport–in the world, and annoying my wife).  I also love to do research so I’ve been looking into how people can best spend their money.  I’m not the sort of guy who would be interested in feng shui; but, I hate boredom more than anything so I jumped at an opportunity to go to a feng shui class with a relative.

I was very interested in how to incorporate indoor fountans and table-top fountains in a feng shui structure to best promote health and happiness in my home.

A quick explanation of feng shui is that it is the study of how to best organize a room to maxamize comfort, happiness, and productivity.  That is, under the feng shui principals, there is a correct way to organize and build a room.  The best rooms are always square because they are the easiest to organize and promote the “energy” of the room.  I put bounded the word “energy” because it was the translation of some Chinese word our instructor used, and, while I am skeptic about everything, I think that rather than dismissing the entire concept because of one word I find odd I should simple use it as a placeholder for ideas tht haven’t been fully flushed out yet as complete ideas.  For instance, the Ancient greeks knew bile was bad for you but they didn’t have the science developed yet to determine why.  We now know bile is what clogs the gall bladder and can cause lots of liver, digestine, and health problems.

What I took away from the feng shui course and what I was interested in was how to best place a fountain in a room.  What feng shui suggests is that for the best possible result, in a square room, a fountain should be placed in a corner.  This makes sense: it won’t overwhelm the room and I sometimes think that, in our square rooms, fountains go the best when they are in the corner, and not a central part of the room.

I decided to try this.

I moved my table-top fountain (a real small one that I use to fall asleep at night) from being on my bed stand to one of the corner’s of our bedroom.  And, surprise, surprise, I found that it worked!  I asleep more easily and the room became more…more…intimate. I never thought our bedroom was cold, but it just felt like a much more warmer, friendlier, and happy enviroment.

Cleaning the air with water fountains

This blog is dedicated to how to improve your home on a budget and to maximize your investment. I love water fountains, Feng Shui and all that jazz. This blog is here to provide you with ideas on how to improve your home in the most cost-effective way. Another motivation is that water fountains and some other very simple investments and improvements can add significant value to your home and your life.  I started to research this when I took earlier retirement after experiancing some health problems.  My wife and I postponed moving out to the country for awhile (partly because of my health concerns but mostly because of the poor performance of the economy).  So, I started to look for easy ways to dress up my home.  Being an executive for years and before thatI worked in a variety of military jobs, I am a sceptic when it comes to anything that is wishy-washy in terms of easy ways to improve your life.  But, I always loved listening to water because it helped me relax, so I started to look around for a classy water fountain to put next to my bed.  What I discovered after that actually surprised me. My wife and kids have allergies and we are always looking for ways to keep the air clean in the house.  I once read that the air in the house is much dirtier than the air outside (don’t take this as a fact; I didn’t have time to look this up and I’m not sure if, whereever I read this, actually took into account where the house is located–urban, big city; ‘burbs; country; ocean; arid; plains; etc–what the house is made out of, how old it is, heat and air equipment, etc.) So, we have always been working on finding ways to keep the air clean.  Water  fountains actually absorb lots of particles, dirt, pests, and can even help get ride of smells.  Moving water cleans the air, purifies it, and also helps the room keep a constant tempature.  Very interesting. So what started as me looking for a little table-top fountain to put near my bed turned into me looking into a variety of different fountains, and I should seamlessly integrate them into my house. I’ve started to look at wall fountains, floor fountains, and do research on the biggest and best suppliers.  Plus, I took a feng shui class with my hippy daughter-in law that actually was  a lot of fun.
